Calico Circus

Through out this past year, I’ve been writing my latest book, a middle grade fantasy titled Calico Circus.

Calico Circus, middle grade fantasy at 52k words, is set in the Appalachian Mountains, where mythology sometimes mixes with every day life.

Eleven year old Addy doesn’t believe she belongs to her family. She dreams about flying, talks to the Little People of the Forest, and sings with Water Sprites. One day a mysterious man with a multicolored coat stops her and her sister near their back woods mountain home. Addy’s feeling of not belonging suddenly makes sense; he has been in her dreams, especially the ones of flying. Joseph’s arrival brings meaning to her life.

Joseph tells Addy she is his daughter and asks for her help, their home was stolen long ago and now she is old enough to help retake it. He leaves out a crucial piece of information though. It was a dragon who stole their home and this dragon knows they are coming to reclaim it.
